The University of Crete

From 10 — 21 July, Katie attended the CreteLing Summer School in sunny Rethymnon, Crete. It was a great opportunity to meet other linguistic students from all over the world (USA, India, Norway, Taiwan, . . ) and meet professors from abroad. In between classes, she was able to meet with some of these professors (Rajesh Bhatt and Roumi Pancheva) to talk about–and receive valuable feedback on– some research for the MEAT project.

While there, she attended courses by Artemis Alexiadou (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin & Leibniz- ZAS Berlin), Elena Anagnostopoulou (University of Crete), Caroline Féry (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt), Kai von Fintel (Massachusetts Institute of Technology),
Sabine Iatridou (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Winfried Lechner (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), Shigeru Miyagawa (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and  Roumi Pancheva (University of Southern California). On each Wednesday of the school, there were extra workshops on-site: “Experiment and theory in syntax and semantics, organised by Uli Sauerland ; “Emerging grammars in language contact situations”, organised by Artemis Alexiadou.

Check out this video she participated in, where native speakers of all 22 languages represented at the summer school say “linguistics” in their own language. Here’s a photo with two other UPV/EHU students (and some friends):
